Niagara Falls, Ontario

Niagara Falls (/na???ɡr?/ ny-AG-ra) is a Canadian city on the western bank of the Niagara River in the Golden Horseshoe region of Southern Ontario, with a population of 82,997 at the 2011 census.[1] The municipality was incorporated on 12 June 1903. Across the Niagara River is Niagara Falls, New York.

The city is dominated by the Niagara Falls, a world-famous set of three large waterfalls on the Niagara River. Both the American and Horseshoe falls can be best seen from the Canadian side of the river, so the city has one of the major tourist attractions of the world. The natural spectacle attracts millions of tourists yearly.

This area, which stretches along the Niagara Parkway and tourist promenade, is particularly concentrated at the brink of the falls. Apart from the natural attractions along the river, it includes observation towers, high-rise hotels, souvenir shops, casinos and theatres, mostly with colourful neon billboards and advertisements, and sufficient parking to accommodate visitors. Further to the north or south, golf courses are operated alongside historic sites from the War of 1812.New Brunswick is famous for many things — the world’s highest tides, delicious seafood, Acadian culture and super friendly people, just to name a few but it also boasts another BIG attribute that attracts many shutter happy tourists to the province — The World’s Largest Lobster!

No joke, the planet’s largest crustacean sits happily at the entrance to the town smiling it’s lobstery smile for all admirers that travel from around Canada and the world to enjoy (about 500,000 people per year, to be exact!). If you were going to try to cook this humongous lobster you’d need a pot the size of an apartment building and you could feed everyone you’ve ever met because at 35 feet long, 16 feet high and weighing in at 50 tones of reinforced concrete and steel… it’s one incredibly huge lobster!

It’s what Shediac, New Brunswick is most famous for as they have earned the moniker ‘Lobster Capitol of the World’.

Not only did we get to see the lobster, but we also had the pleasure of meeting the mayor.  A gregarious man he welcomed us with a big ‘bonjour’ and a bag of little treats from his town.  He gave us a history of the lobster and explained the finer points of his town and province.  He is very proud of Shediac.

This gorgeous little Acadian town has a distinct Mi’kmaq and French culture and many natural attributes, like the beautiful Parlee Beach Provincial Park, which is jammed with visitors in the summer.

New Brunswick is a great place to live or visit.  If you don’t believe us, visit New Brunswick and see for yourself.

It’s a wonderful province … with a very big lobster!

    Hope Well Rocks 好望角

The Hopewell Rocks, also called the Flowerpots Rocks or simply The Rocks, are rock formations caused by tidal erosion in The Hopewell Rocks Ocean Tidal Exploration Site in New Brunswick. They stand 40–70 feet tall. They are located on the shores of the upper reaches of the Bay of Fundy at Hopewell Cape near Moncton. Due to the extreme tidal range of the Bay of Fundy, the base of the formations are covered in water twice a day. However, it is possible to view the formations from ground level at low tide.

The formations consist of dark sedimentary conglomerate and sandstone rock. The large volume of water flowing in to and out of the Bay of Fundy modifies the landscape surrounding it. After the retreat of the glaciers in the region following the last ice age, surface water filtering through cracks in the cliff has eroded and separated the formations from the rest of the cliff face. Meanwhile, advancing and retreating tides and the associated waves have eroded the base of the rocks at a faster rate than the tops, resulting in their unusual shapes.

The vast sediment planes in the basin in Fundy supports a variety of biological productivity. Various shorebirds are often seen flocking to nest and feed in the area. Visitors are advised to stay for a full tidal cycle to get a full appreciation of the tides and formations. Although the tides vary from day to day, the high tide can be as high as 16 metres (52 ft) giving the Hopewell Rocks one of the highest average tides in the world
